우리에게 미시적 세계를 관통하는 눈이 있다고 상상해 본다면, 무수한 입자들의 운동을 볼 수 있을 것이다. 이들은 상승하다 다시 하강하기도 하고, 서로 부딪치며 흩뿌려져 있을 것이다. 미시세계의 입자에게는 시간은 대칭적임으로 과거와 미래는 없으며, 시간에 관한 어떠한 이정표도 세울 수 없다. 그러나 물이 높은 곳에서 낮은 곳으로 향하고, 태양이 밝게 빛나며, 우주가 팽창한다는 것과 같은 자연에서의 모든 자발적 변화들은 시간 속에서 일어나는 변화와 방향일 것이다. 이 모든 것들은 하나의 단어로 일일이 정의할 수 없으며, 단일한 감각과 순수한 차원에서 해석할 수 없는 우주적 사건이다. +3x10^8m/s, beyond the light velocity는 우주적 사건을 음악이라는 시가의 단위로 보여낸다.

The South Korean duo "GRAYCODE, jiiiiin" consisting of Taebok Cho (GRAYCODE) and Jinhee Jung (jiiiiin) presents with the audiovisual work +3x10^8m/s, beyond the light velocity a composition simplified to the extreme. Sinusoidal floating sounds followed by sudden silence, short passages of granulated sounds, clicks up to soon drop-like sounds can be heard. The sounds are completely static in themselves, stand on the silence, sound as a surface and articulate themselves only through volume changes and the constellations in which they are placed. In addition, the video shows constellations of exclusively green point clouds and conglomerates, which are kept in motion like mass clouds in space by gravity centers or rejection reactions. With this setting, GRAYCODE succeeds in jiiiiin impressively staging the dynamics of movements in space. Purified sounds allow a view of a pure, almost dematerialized dynamic of gravity and movement. The slightest information of the sound material connots the complex events of movement and constellation. This is anything but convention, design or expected composition. A work that goes to the extreme in its consistency and yet achieves everything in expressivity.
조태복, 정진희로 구성된 한국 작가 듀오 GRAYCODE, jiiiiin은 오디오 비주얼 작품 “+3x10^8m/s, beyond the light velocity”를 선보인다. 극단적으로 단순화한 구성을 가진 이 작품은 사인파 모양의 떠다니는 음향(sinusoidal floating sounds) 뒤에 찾아오는 갑작스러운 정적과 세분하게 쪼개진 소리의 짧은 흐름, 클릭 소리부터 물방울이 떨어지는 듯한 사운드까지 포함하고 있다. 영상은 녹색 점으로 이루어진 구름과 여러 집합의 별자리들을 보여 주는데, 이는 마치 중력 중심이나 거부반응에 의해 움직이는 우주의 질량 구름 같아 보인다. 사운드는 그 자체로 완전히 정적이며 침묵 위에 서 있고 표면에서 울려 나오는데, 이는 배치한 음량 변화와 별자리들만을 사용하여 표현된다. GRAYCODE, jiiiiin은 이런 설정을 통해 우주 속 움직임의 역동감을 보다 인상적으로 연출해내었다. 우리는 이런 정제된 사운드를 통해 순수하고 거의 비물질화된 중력의 역학을 경험할 수 있으며 음향 물질들(sound materials)의 아주 작은 정보에는 움직임과 별자리의 복잡한 사건이 내포되어 있다. 이 작품에서는 지금까지의 관습, 형태 또는 예상되는 구성 이외의 것을 볼 수 있으며, 결과적으로는 굉장히 극단적이지만 표현력 측면에서 모든 것을 달성하는 작품이다.
