 In November 2022, we headed to the seaside at Seogwipo, the southernmost tip of Jeju Island, to artistically explore actual sensory properties conveyed by live nature. We settled on the beach as the tide went out and observed vibration differentiations from the surface of the sea and land at an arbitrary term of 0.05 seconds. These were converted into numbers and stored as data.

 Nearly 11 months later, the data that we gathered became sound pieces and were played at Songeun. When the sound resonates and vibrates here, we question whether this site could be a creation of Mother Nature. Just as an arrow of time that sets out on its journey can never be returned, like smoke dissolving in the air, the vibrations and their resonance stored as data are models for actuality. While these were unlike our perception, on that day, ∆w became eyewitnesses of the unseen.

 2022년 11월, 우리는 제주도 최남단의 서귀포 바다로 향했다. 바닷물이 빠지며 드러나는 끝자락의 땅에서 실재하는 자연이 만드는 정보를 찾아보려 함이다. 거친 날씨로 인해 출렁이던 바다의 표면과 거센 파도가 바위를 치며 떨리는 지면에서 우리는 0.05초 기준 시간을 두고 자연의 정보를 추적했다. 그 시간, 그 순간, 자연에서 발견된 진동의 변화량은 숫자로 정리되어 데이터로 보관하였다.

 약 11개월이 지난 지금, 당시 데이터로 우리는 소리를 만들고, 송은의 전시장에서 재생한다. 소리가 공간을 울리고 진동할 때, 이곳은 2022년 11월, 거센 파도와 바람이 만들었던 그때의 시간이 될 수 있을까? 비록 허공에 흩어지는 연기처럼 결코 되돌아올 수 없는 여정을 떠나는 시간의 화살일지라도, 데이터로 간직된 진동과 공명은 실제를 모델링 할 것이다. 그것이 우리의 눈에는 서로 다르더라도, ∆w는 보이지 않는 것의 목격자가 된다.
